First week using my new Hobonichi A5 paper planner. Very relaxing to work with, using a dedicated extra fine nib fountain pen for the very thin Tomoe River paper. And best of all already a huge productivity aid. Tonight I was brainstorming extra ideas for my new parser text adventure game for IFComp 2024.

Note re here, I’m noting my things to do (mini goals) each week in the paper planner. I had intended to keep posting things done in the week here (my check in), but I hand wrote so many tonight in the planner, and don’t want to retype them! So they’ll probably stay offline too.

I’m going to be trying keeping a Hobonichi planner / life book throughout 2024 and have been experimenting re the approach I’ll take. Intending to use it for a mix of keeping track of things to do in a week (list on Monday pages) and done (on Friday pages) as well as musings on days, books read etc.

This could all be done digitally instead, but I really like relaxing with a handwritten journal or planner, fountain pen in hand. It should also be nice to have as a record at the end of the year. I’ll be using an A5 Hobonichi Cousin plus a dedicated EF nib TWSBI pen.

I have a Day Free A6 2023 Hobonichi to experiment in over the coming months. But will be starting properly on 1st January. I’m already really pleased with how the fountain pen I’ve got for this writes on the extremely thin Tomoe River paper. No bleed through of ink or pressure marks transfer as I write.

My package from Japan arrived today, and I had fun unpacking it. Martin was most intrigued! I've bought some journals and other things for 2024, so won't be using most of it till then. But I'm ready. A number of things sold out fast on the first day of sales. One item I wanted sold out in the first 5 minutes, while I slept, but I was extremely lucky when it briefly came back into stock within the hour (probably a cancelled or failed order), so briefly awake me nabbed it! So lucky. I'm a very keen fountain pen user and like journalling and using paper planners. I've never used Hobonichi planners though before, so will be pondering my approach in the run up to 2024. I'm sure it will be haphazard when I start, but should get clearer. Here is a photo of my main planner/journal for 2025 ready in its cover (that sold out in just 5 minutes!) and a dedicated fountain pen that nicely fits the cover closing mechanism (a TWSBI Eco Smoke Rose Gold EF nib).
