BBC journalist Steve Rosenberg plays snippets from all 37 Eurovision 2025 songs on piano, in an epic play through.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, The Box of Delights much loved TV version was first shown in 1984 by the BBC, starring Devin Stanfield and Patrick Troughton. I adore it, and mention it here a lot!

It is getting a remastered new Blu-ray and DVD rerelease next week, including a very lengthy new "making of" documentary. But it's also going to be aired on the telly again, in the weeks running up to Christmas, starting with two episodes on the night of 7th December 2024. More details at the Radio Times article about the repeat. There is also a full page article about the programme's anniversary in next week's Radio Times print issue.

Just ordered me some goodies from RedBubble, where an artist - and member of the Box of Delights online fan community - has been creating art for the 40th anniversary celebrations. I have managed to resist getting a framed wall print. We already have too many pictures waiting to go up on the walls! But I might have ordered a fridge magnet, two designs of coasters, some stickers and a large fleece throw 😜 Really looking forward to getting this package!

I also have a new and expanded version of Philip Errington’s companion book coming soon, and later in the month the remastered 40th anniversary Blu-ray produced by the BBC will be here.

OMG! The 1984 BBC version of "The Box of Delights" is coming out on Blu-ray in November! Including new special features, such as "Time And Tide – Making The Box of Delights". We rewatch this series every year in the run up to Christmas!

Can't get over how slow the BBC Scotland coverage is at keeping up with results. They announced one very early result almost 10 minutes late. I am flitting between tabs on websites while occasionally dropping in to watch BBC Scotland or Sky News. Mainly keeping the Sky News tab open for an accurate election count so far (they're quickest at noting the changes) and BBC Scotland's live results text feed for reports from ongoing counts etc. I am especially keen to see what happens in my constituency, Arbroath and Broughty Ferry (new this year), Dundee Central and North East Fife.

Later I'll switch to the UK wide BBC News coverage as hopefully lots of Tory high heid yins lose their seats! I am sporadically eating Doritos (chilli heatwave flavour) and drinking creamy strawberry milkshake (Shaken Udder). May also have a cup of tea and a couple of Maryland chocolate chip cookies.

P.S. Though George Galloway out. Fab!
vivdunstan: Some of my Doctor Who etc books (doctor who)
I’m a very lax reader of Doctor Who Magazine now, though I keep getting it in digital form on my iPad. I’m just too very ill now to read it exhaustively each month. However with today’s new issue I have dived in fast to read the previous of the upcoming episode numbers 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. It’s fair to say that 4, 6 and 7 are the ones I’m most excited about, after last weekend’s ā€œBoomā€. I won’t go into detail of what these next episodes are about except to put brief summary words in spoiler space mild spoilers ).

Episodes 7 and 8 are airing together in some UK cinemas late on Friday 21st June, shortly before the 8th episode goes up on the iPlayer at midnight, and before the BBC1 broadcast on Saturday night. However screening coverage outside the central belt of Scotland is very limited. I’m in Dundee and the nearest to me is in Dunfermline, 50/60 miles away. Closest after that is Edinburgh, then places like Glasgow and Aberdeen. To be fair I’m too ill to go to the cinema now, and it’s also too risky for me infection wise. But this isn’t great coverage. Though we are getting it on the iPlayer and BBC1. So I can’t really complain.

Lining up our next weekend rewatch, with an episode a week. Next is the BBC’s version of Gormenghast from 2000. I wonder how much of this Martin will remember? He says a reasonable amount 😜
